How it works

A good estimate starts with a conversation.

Three steps, about a minute. No setup, no accounts, no invites to chase.

    Create a room

Start instantly without an account, then share the room ID, link, or QR code.

    Estimate story points

Each teammate picks a Fibonacci card. You can see who has voted, while every estimate stays hidden.

    Reveal at the same time

Show all cards together, discuss the assumptions behind the spread, and re-vote when it helps.

How to make story point estimation useful

Planning poker is most valuable when it uncovers different assumptions before a story enters a sprint. The number is the outcome; shared understanding is the purpose.

Prepare a story the team can discuss

Start with a clear user outcome and acceptance criteria. Answer the team’s questions before voting. If people cannot describe what is in scope, the story is not ready for a reliable estimate.

Use story points as a relative measure

Story points compare effort, complexity, risk, and uncertainty. They are not hours. Use a familiar reference story, then compare new work with that shared example.

Discuss the widest difference first

When estimates differ, ask the highest and lowest voters what they considered. A dependency, edge case, or missing acceptance criterion often explains the spread. Clarify it, then vote again.

Planning poker FAQ

Straight answers about creating rooms, inviting teammates, voting, accounts, and integrations.

Is Planning Poker Free really free?

Yes. Room creation, joining, Fibonacci voting, simultaneous reveal, reset, presence, timer, average, and median are free.

Do I need to sign up or enter an email?

No. Create a room and run a complete session without an account or email. Accounts are optional for reusable rooms and custom decks.

How many people can join a room?

The application does not impose a participant cap, so your whole team can use the same room.

Are estimates hidden until reveal?

Yes. The room shows who has voted, but only the voter can see their own selection. All estimates appear together when the facilitator reveals the round.

Can teammates join from a phone?

Yes. Share the room link or let teammates scan the room’s QR code. It works in a mobile browser with nothing to install.

Does it integrate with Jira?

No. Planning Poker Free is deliberately a focused estimation room, not a backlog manager. Keep it open beside the tool where you manage stories.

Are planning poker and Scrum poker the same?

Yes. Scrum poker, pointing poker, and planning poker usually describe the same private-vote and simultaneous-reveal technique for estimating work as a team.
